The Criminal Law (Amendment) Bill 2020 Introduced in NA
Islamabad: Government Introduced The Criminal Law (Amendment) Bill 2020 in the National Assembly. The bill will make intentional defaming and ridiculing of armed forces a criminal offence.
Pakistan is introducing new reforms to meet the standards set by FATF in order to avoid being black listed. The Criminal Law (Amendment) Bill 2020 is moved by PTI’s Amjad Ali Khan to criminalize defaming and ridiculing of armed forces.
According to the bill, “500A intentional ridiculing of the Armed Forces- Whosoever intentionally ridicules , brings into disrepute or defames the Armed forces or a member , therefore he shall be guilty of an offence punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine which may extend to Rs 500,000”.
The house also passed the Anti-Terrorism (third amendment) bill, 2020. The opposition walked out in protest after the bill was passed as opposition wanted to debate the bill.
After the passing of the bill, The investigation officer with the permission of court can use do undercover operation or tap communications. The officer can access computer system of anyone for the investigation of financing of terrorism under the permission of court within 60 days.
The court must extend the period of investigation using techniques upon the written request of the investigation officer.
