KARACHI: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has asked for special consideration to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) for the cleaning all Karachi nullahs, and also demanded to remove the encroachment around them in three months.
Apart from this, Gulzar Ahmed, Ijazul Ahsan, and Faisal Arab all three heart the illegal encroachment on the drains. While hearing the case, Gulzar Ahmed, the Chief Justice of Pakistan, asked from Iftikhar Shallwani, the Commissioner of Karachi, regarding the ongoing drive for cleaning the entire city’s stormwater drains.
However, the commissioner Karachi detailed the court that NDMA has flushed the main three nullahs of the city. It is pertinent to mention here that there are 38 big and 514 small drains in the entire Karachi.
On this, the CJP has asked the question of why NDMA has not completed the cleaning work of remaining drains?
Similarly, he said that it is the responsibility of the government of Sindh to clean all the nullahs; however, it failed to do so. Therefore, the federal government intervened in the provincial government.
