Hearing on appeals of Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz and Muhammad Safdar continues

Azizia and Avonfield reference will be heard in Islamabad High Court today, September 1. Maryam Nawaz Sharif reached the court along with the workers.

A two-member bench will hear the case on appeal against the sentence in the Avonfield reference. Strict security arrangements have been made on this occasion. Muhammad Safdar himself drove to the court.

Accompanied by Maryam Nawaz, the workers also reached the Islamabad High Court but were stopped outside. One and a half thousand police personnel have been deployed for security on the occasion. Unauthorized persons have been barred from entering the court during the hearing. DIG Operations says court staff and media representatives should keep their identities prominent.

Maryam Nawaz reached Islamabad High Court from Murree to appear. Workers greeted him at Bhara Kahu and marched to the court. Captain (retd) Safdar also appeared in court.

On the other hand, the lawyer of Maryam Nawaz and Captain Safdar, Amjad Pervez, has filed a petition to adjourn the hearing. The petition states that since I am on leave, a date should be given after September 5.

On the other hand, Nawaz Sharif filed an application for exemption from attendance on the ground that he was undergoing treatment abroad.

It should be noted that in the Avonfield reference, Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz, and Capt. R Safdar has filed an appeal to have the sentence quashed, while in the Azizia reference, Nawaz Sharif’s sentence has been quashed, and the NAB has increased the sentence to seven years. There will also be a hearing on the appeal for 14 years.

The Division Bench will also hear the Accountability Bureau’s appeal against Nawaz Sharif’s acquittal in the flagship reference.
